AWIS National

AWIS is dedicated to achieving equity and full participation of women in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Founded in 1971, AWIS provides women a network, a resource, and a voice to achieve this goal.

Of over 5000 members of AWIS nationally, 50% hold PhDs and many have prominent positions in government, academe or industry. There are 76 local chapters throughout the country, of which San Diego is one of the largest (see, About AWIS-San Diego).

The National AWIS office publishes materials about women in science and a bimonthly magazine. It is also an active participant in policy discussions at the Federal level and participates in a variety of national coalitions related to women in science issues.
