President Elect:
Janet White, MA, MBA
Janet White is Senior Director of Business Operations for Development at Pfizer's La Jolla Laboratories, where her responsibilities include business planning and performance measurement. Janet has worked with Pfizer in San Diego since 2002; before joining Pfizer she worked as a pharmaceutical business consultant in Princeton, New Jersey. Janet originally trained as a chemist and worked for nine years within R&D at GlaxoSmithKline in the UK; she then studied for an MBA, which was her stepping stone to a new career in consulting.
Janet has been an AWIS member since June 2001, a San Diego Board Member since 2003 and is currently Board President. She was President-Elect of the Central Jersey Chapter at the time she left Princeton. As well as chairing the Board, she co-chairs the 2005 WIB Organizing Committee, chairs the Database Committee, is an active member of the Corporate Sponsorship Committee and Board Liaison to the Newsletter and Website Committees. In recent years she has also been an active member of the Outreach and Strategy Sessions Committees, led a team that raised over $33,000 for WIB 2003, and also designed and led a strategic planning workshop for AWIS Board and Committee Chairs in January 2004 (something she is repeating with the National AWIS Board and Committee Chairs in September 2004). Under Janet's leadership the Board has adopted a three pronged strategy to consolidate and build on the recent growth of AWIS-SD; to increase awareness of AWIS within San Diego, to increase seniority and diversity of our membership (in terms of scientific discipline, geographical location within our region, mix of academic, industry and government, and age and experience), and to strengthen our infrastructure. In her remaining year as President Janet intends to continue to pursue these three strategies.
Janet is married to Jonathan and they have three pet dogs. Her other passion is music - she performs regularly on the cello and enjoys playing chamber music for relaxation.
