2003 Upcoming Committee
Meetings/Events
The various committees of the AWIS-San Diego chapter are: the Book
Club, Events, Membership/Networking, Newsletter, the Outdoors Club,
Outreach and Public Relations.
Each committee meets approximately once each month and their schedules are
listed below. You can find out more information about each committee by
going to their individual sections within this website. Committees vary
by structure, goals and membership. Some committee are purely social and
do not require that you are an AWIS member, such as the Book and Outdoors
Club. Other committees reach out to the San Diego community such as the
Events, Outreach, Membership and Public Relations committees. The others
focus on strengthening the AWIS-San Diego chapter: Networking and Newsletter.
The newer committees are the Outdoors Club and Public Relations. If you
have any questions about AWIS-SD please contact our Membership
(sdawis@san.rr.com) NB: The
Events committee meets after each Group Event, so their committee meetings
are not listed below.
People interested in the fields of patent law and/or bioinformatics can
contact Tobey Tam tobey_tam@yahoo.com if they are
interested in joining our informal lunches/happy hours that occur
approximately every other month.

Expanding Your Horizons
(EYH) Conference again this year. EYH is a great program to get 6-10th
grade girls interested in pursuing math, science, engineering and
technology-related careers and education. This year, this conference
will be held on Saturday, October 11th at UCSD. Over 600 girls and 150
parents are expected to participate. We are currently seeking volunteers
to lead interactive, hands-on workshops in a variety of different areas
of science. There is a
particular need for presenters in the area of medicine, forensics, animal
science and mathematics, but enthusiastic presenters are needed in all
areas of science, math and engineering! If you are interesting in
leading a workshop, please review the attached materials and fill out the
presenter proposal. If leading a workshop is not possible, but you are
interested in helping out, the AWIS Outreach committee will be organizing
two different workshops (topics to be decided) and will need volunteers
to assist in this process (to assist the Outreach committee, please
